INAUGURAL CEREMONY

Samahar Natya Gosthee’s 13th Annual Brajanath Sharma Memorial Inter-State Drama Festival was inaugurated by veteran film actor (of ‘Maniram Dewan’ fame), senior advocate and social worker Mr Dilip Hazarika. The souvenir of the festival ‘Kohinoor’ was released by eminent journalist Mr Haidor Hussain.

DAY-1 (PLAY “KAHAYA CHANDEE DASA”)

The inaugural ceremony was followed by the play of the first night. Saanko from Guwahati presented “KAHAYA CHANDEE DASA”, written by eminent playwright Dr Sitanath Lahkar. Directed by Dr Debashis Saikia and Mr Satyajit Gogoi, the play mainly talked about terrorism and surrendered militants.

DAY-2, Manabendra Bhattacharyya Evening, (PLAY “BESHYA”)

Samahar Natya Gosthee staged the maiden show of their latest play “BESHYA, written and
directed by renowned playwright Dr Sitanath Lahkar. The drama highlighted an
important aspect of the present political scenario in the country.

DAY-3, Birendra Malakar Evening, (PLAY “DAKGHAR”)

Kabiguru Rabindranath Tagore’s famous play “DAKGHAR” was presented by Barpeta’s Pinak. The Assamese translation and direction was by Mr Utpal Kumar Das. Written in 1912, this classic play dealt with a child’s emotions and dreams.

DAY-4 (PLAY “KAKCHAKRA”)

The play Written by Ms Rudrani Sharma and directed by Mr Gautam Saikia, Gauhati University’s Neinad Gosthee presented “KALCHAKRA”. It was based on epic Mahabharata. With a new interpretation, the drama beautifully linked the incidents of that era with present day happenings in the socio-politico sphere. 

DAY-5, Sukumar Pathak Evening, (PLAY “BANDE MATARAM”)

Jagiroad Natya Gosthi will perform “BANDE MATARAM“. The play, written and directed by well-known theatre personality Mr Tarun Talukdar, revolves around a freedom fighter. The play has a strong message against terrorism.

CONCLUDING NIGHT, DAY-6 (PLAY “CHORA UBACHA”)

The organiser Samahar Natya Gosthee presented “CHORA UBACHA”. The comedy play, written and directed by Dr Sitanath Lahkar, was on the lives of three thieves. Through them, the playwright raised some pertinent questions on the peoples’ beliefs on supernatural powers. The extremely humorous play was a strong statement against superstition.
